F1 is coming back to Portugal!

Portugal last hosted the event 24 years ago in Estoril and now the Formula 1 World Championship will return to Portugal on 23rd October 2020, 24 years after the last race, and will this time be held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão.

Formula 1 had initially been scheduled to start on 15 March in Australia, but the race was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The succession of cancellations has opened the door to the use of new circuits in the second half of the Formula 1 World Championship season, such as the Mugello circuit and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Portimão's 2.9-mile track, designed by Ricardo Pena, was opened in 2008. The long-awaited return is great news for the region and will bring in an estimated Euro 30m.
